Abstract:
We explore the use of parallel cooperating meta-heuristics
for solving large scale CVRP's. We look at different mechanisms
for control and information sharing between the search threads.
One of these mechanisms involve clustering solutions together
according to their structural similarities. When we intensify
the search around the best solutions from the best clusterss,
we obtain new best results on standard benchmarks. We also
show how our methods can be applied to large-scale real-world
problems.

Biography:
Arne Løkketangen is professor of informatics with an interest in metaheuristics for
combinatorial optimization problems, with a focus on transportation planning
problems. He joined Molde University College, in Molde, Norway, as associate
professor in 1988, after 10 years of consulting in the private sector. He has his Ph.D.
from the University of Bergen in 1995, and is a full professor in informatics at Molde
College since 2001. He has around 60 internationally refereed papers, organized 5
international workshops in Molde and been on the international or program committee
of more than 50 international conferences. His work has been presented in around 130
lectures and 3 tutorials at international scientific meetings. He has given around 40
guest lectures at leading universities and research institutions around the world. He
has been leader of the Nordic Math Programming Society chapter, and is on the
editorial board of 6 international scientific journals (Journal of Heuristics, Journal of
Mathematical Modelling and Algorithms, Informs Journal on Computing, Computers
and Operations Research, EURO Journal on Computation Optimization,
International Journal of Management Science and Engineering and Applied
Computational Intelligence and Soft Computing), as well as refereeing for more than
40 different journals and around 50 special issues, books and conferences. He is
currently the leader of the Molde University College research group for Planning,
Optimization and Decision Support, as well as local project leader for the DOMinant
II project, supported by Norway Research, and participating in several other research
projects. He is an associated member of CIRRELT, senior advisor for SINTEF, and
also works for Molde Research

Professor Arne Løkketangen is 58 years old, has two children (aged 24 and 27), and is a
mushroom picker/collector. He also likes to fish in the local fiord.
