Title: Mathematics and Economics for On-demand Mobility Services

Speaker: Professor Hai Yang, The Hong Kong University of Science and

Technology

Abstract: Application-based taxi and car service e-hailing systems

have transformed urban mobility by offering on-demand ride services

that are both timely and convenient. The integration of mathematics

and economics is essential for developing efficient, sustainable, and

customer-focused on-demand mobility solutions. This talk will explore

the latest advancements and research challenges in the field,

including demand forecasting, dynamic surge pricing, driver-passenger

matching, pricing strategies, ride-pooling optimization, and the

impact of ride-pooling on traffic congestion. Additionally, we will

discuss topics such as market competition, third-party platform

integration, and Pareto-efficient regulatory frameworks. By addressing

these key issues, the seminar aims to provide insights into creating

smarter and more sustainable urban mobility systems.
